UFC in Works to Make a Massive Featherweight Bout Between Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez – According to Ariel Helwani

UFC is stacking up some amazing bouts for the events in 2022. The promotion has already had four successful events for the fans in the first quarter of the year. However, there are a few best of the best fights yet to happen in 2022.

Interestingly, the UFC is looking to make one such bout. According to famous MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, an intriguing featherweight fight between Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez is in the works, for an event this year. Helwani posted the news of his official Twitter account today.

The featherweight division of UFC has produced some of the best fighters. Alexander Volkanovski currently reigns the division. He is set to defend his UFC gold against the number four contender, Chan Sung Jung, in the main event of UFC 273.

Meanwhile, if Ortega vs Rodriguez comes to fruition, it will provide a clear picture of a future viable title opponent. The former title challenger ‘T-City’ suffered a loss in his attempt to capture the gold against ‘The Great’ at UFC 266 last year. He will look to map his way back to the win column.

On the other hand, ‘El Pantera’ also suffered a unanimous decision loss in his last fight against the former champion, Max Holloway. He will also look to bounce back into the win in his quest to earn a shot at the featherweight gold.

As aforementioned, the UFC has already set the title fight between ‘The Great’ and Sung Jung. However, earlier, the former champion ‘Blessed’ was set for the title. But he pulled out of the fight because of an injury.

However, ‘Blessed’ who is currently the number one contender and is on a two-fight undefeated streak, might opt for the title on his return. He might fight the winner of Volkanovski vs. Sung Jung.

Hence, the winner of Ortega vs. Rodriguez might have to bag one more win to earn the shot at the title. However, anything is possible in the sport called MMA.
