UFC 298 witnessed the dethroning of Alexander Volkanovski and the crowing of Ilia Topuria as the new featherweight champion. Volkanovski tried to defend his title at the main event but Topuria’s striking had the better game. In the second round, Topuria knocked out ‘Volk’ down to the canvas. Volkanovski is now 1-3 in his last four fights.

Eugene Bareman doubles down on Alexander Volkanovski’s rematch

Ilia Topuria extended his undefeated streak to 15-0 when he knocked out Volkanovski. ‘El Matador’ is now eyeing a title defense, and out of respect, Topuria is willing to give Volkanovski a chance for an immediate rematch in Spain for the title. The question remains: Is ‘The Great’ ready for this immediate rematch?

‘Volk’ might be experiencing some effects due to back-to-back knockouts but as per the head coach, Eugene Bareman, Volkanovski is not giving any signs of concussions after effects. While having a conversation with Combat TV, Bareman said, “In terms of like, his symptoms, he doesn’t have any symptoms, which was not the case in the last knockout. There’s so many variables when it comes to having a knockout and how many symptoms you suffer and all of that.”

He further added, “I don’t know the science behind it, and I’m not going to begin to try to understand it. But he seems to not be as affected by this concussion as he was by the last one. I wouldn’t be able to tell you why. He definitely needs to rest. He needs to rest his head. He needs to be sensible, but he also will be very keen to get that rematch this year.”

Bareman emphasized that Volkanovski needed to rest, but he further asserted that ‘The Great’ was looking for a title match this year. Additionally, Bareman is not the only one who is concerned about Volkanovski’s well-being. UFC legend Matt Brown has come forward to add some words of advice for Alexander Volkanovski.

Matt Brown is concerned about Volkanovski

The ‘Great’ is suffering from a barrage of losses now. The amount of damage Volkanovski is taking might not be good for him as he grows old. UFC legend Matt Brown has come forward to make his opinion on the Australian. “I think it’s very independent, very specific to each person. I don’t think you can make a broad statement saying that is the problem. Because it’s more mental than it is physical in my opinion. I’ve had concussions before and I’ve been knocked out once” said Brown on The Fighter vs. The Writer.

He further added, “When I got knocked out, I came back and I was fine. But when I got concussed in a fight, I didn’t get knocked out but I was concussed, I was having serious problems for weeks after, maybe months after. There was serious problems. Vertigo, falling over, slurred speech. I would be speaking and just stop and not know what I was talking about. Crazy things like that.”

Alexander Volkanovski might want to get his title back but for now, the former champion needs a well-deserved rest. What is your opinion on ‘The Great’s recent losses?
