UFC 301 saw a rare occurrence that led to a stoppage win in the fight between Jack Shore and Joanderson Brito. The clash between the two was marked by Brito unleashing multiple leg kicks on Shore. While the Welsh fighter was enduring the damage for several minutes, one of the kicks ended up slicing his shin wide open!

The referee then called a halt to the action due to the significant amount of bleeding from Shore’s leg. As such, the doctor was asked to come into the Octagon and check on the cut. After an examination of the injury, it was proclaimed that the fight would not be allowed to continue and Brito secured the TKO victory in the second round.

As the doctor was examining the cut on the Welshman’s shin, the commentators could be heard worrying if it was deep enough to expose the bone. They also mentioned Luke Rockhold‘s injury from UFC 221 in 2018. The former middleweight champion busted his shin open from a leg kick that Yoel Romero checked. This injury plagued Rockhold for the rest of his career. The former Strikeforce champion faced further complications after his leg surgery went wrong, an experience he described as a ‘nightmare.’

While the replays were being viewed, play-by-play commentator, Jon Anik revealed that the doctor had stated that he suspected Shore may have sustained a fracture to the shin bone where the wound occurred, as such he decided to end the contest. However, the online reactions indicated that the fans weren’t exactly thrilled with the decision by the medical professional at UFC 301.
