No matter how long you’ve been a combat sports fan, there’s always a surprise waiting around the corner. UFC 305 in Australia delivered just that. It wasn’t the fighters, but Judge Howie Booth who stole the show, for all the wrong reasons. His questionable decision in the Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Tai Tuivasa fight led to an immediate dismissal by the Western Combat Sports Commission, setting a strong example of how to handle such situation.

Meanwhile, the fallout from Booth’s controversial decision continues to unfold. A recent statement from a UFC insider predicts potential consequences for the judge’s combat sports career, speculating on the long-term impact of this high-profile incident.

What’s next for Howie Booth?

Fighter-turned-comedian Brendan Schaub, known for his YouTube podcast The Fighter and The Kid, dedicated significant time to discussing the Howie Booth controversy on a recent episode. When a co-host brought up the incident, Schaub exclaimed, “Yeah, because he gave it 30-27 for a tie. It’s insane. They told the judge, ‘Dude, we get being a homer, but this is insane.'” Bryan Callen, another co-host, joined the conversation, expressing astonishment at the judges’ apparent arbitrariness. Schaub responded, “We’ve got a problem here because that was such an outrageous call. I mean, if you’re going to cheat, cheat, but be less obvious, due.”

If we closely look at the three judges’ scorecards, 28-29, 27-30, and Booth’s 30-27, it’s clear that not only Booth but also Charlie Keech’s report card was controversial. Despite this, the commission took action only against Booth. With questions surrounding everyone’s mind, does Booth have another shot? According to Brendan Schaub, “No, he’ll be put on ice for quite some time.”

However, Brendan Schaub isn’t the only one who criticized Howie Booth. UFC veteran Michael Bisping also recently weighed in with negative comments about Booth.

Michael Bisping lashes out at Judge Howie Booth

The questionable scorecard didn’t go unnoticed by Michael Bisping, who, like Joe Rogan, enjoyed the UFC 305 PPV event. Bisping hosted a watch party on his YouTube channel, where he reacted live to the controversial decision by Judge Howie Booth in the Tai Tuivasa vs. Jairizinho Rozenstruik fight. Joining the chorus of disapproval, Bisping found the scorecard baffling, as Tuivasa’s performance didn’t justify such a close score.

While live-streaming his podcast during the PPV, Bisping expressed his anger, stating that despite being a big fan of Tuivasa, he couldn’t condone the score. He called for judges like Booth to be removed saying, “These judges are costing people their livelihood, title shots, money in the bank. These judges that come out with insane scorecards like that, they need to be fired. They should not be doing this job…Any man on the street, woman, man, old lady, a child watching that fight can say who won. That was straight-up bullsh*t.”
