The preliminary card for UFC Kansas City was opened by Women bantamweights Joselyne Edwards (Now 13-4-0) and Lucie Pudilová (Now 14-8-0). Subsequently, the two mixed martial artists went toe-to-toe in a close 3-round fight and as usual, the decision went to the judges. Even though Edwards looked to have lost all 3 of the rounds in the public eye, the judges decided to reward a split decision to her instead of Pudilová.
