The world of mixed martial arts has entered a vicious triangle with Israel Adesanya, Dricus Du Plessis, and Robert Whittaker on each corner. While the talks about Du Plessis and Whittaker facing each other booms on the internet, Chael Sonnen dismissed the idea of the two fighting.

Even though Whittaker previously acknowledged Du Plessis as a threat, Sonnen seemed to believe that Du Plessis and Whittaker didn’t want to fight each other. Furthermore, he addressed the reason why the UFC wanted the two of them to fight. Thereafter, the UFC Hall of Famer provided a suggestion for a fight that the entire world was apparently excited about. Nevertheless, the three fighters have garnered all the attention of the MMA world.

Chael Sonnen has a plan for getting the next opponent for Adesanya

Sonnen claimed that ‘Stillknocks’ and ‘The Reaper’ were not interested in fighting each other. Instead, he provided the promotion with an option to decide the next challenger for Adesanya.

He said, “Whittaker and Du Plessis don’t want to fight. Whittaker and Du Plessis have never asked to fight. Whittaker and Du Plessis are not building a fight. So, if what we’re trying to do is just find a guy for Adesanya, I meanm if that really is it, flip a coin. I mean what difference would it, what difference would that make? Flip a coin, play a game of darts, thumb wrestle.

Don’t do any of those things. Break up a contract, put this guy’s name. What difference does it make? It sounds like you’re down to two and it sounds like those two have such strong and compelling and equal arguments that we’re gonna help them go head to head.”

Sonnen proposed to have coin flips, and similar games to decide who would fight Adesanya. But there was one fight that didn’t leave his mind. Immediately after Sonnen opined, “But we’re up against the clock on this one. And there is a match which we really want to see, which is Du Plessis versus Adesanya.”

For Sonnen, the Du Plessis versus Whittaker fight, “it’s not one that we have asked to see.”

Robert Whittaker acknowledged his opponent

In a previous interview with Submission Radio, Whittaker opened up on his thoughts about Du Plessis. Not only did the fighter acknowledge ‘Stillknocks’ but also thought of him as a threat in the Octagon.

‘The Reaper’ declared that he respected the fact that Du Plessis was looking for a hard fight. Nevertheless, the world of mixed martial arts still lies in wait for either of the fighters to get a fight against the middleweight champion.
