Chael Sonnen is undoubtedly one of the most coveted names in the entire MMA world. The former UFC Light heavyweight and Middleweight fighter helped popularize the sport of MMA massively. ‘The American Gangster’ is considered a master in the art of trash-talking, which gained him humongous popularity. He also runs his own YouTube channel and boasts over a million subscribers. In one of his recent videos, Sonnen talked about how things had deteriorated for the ‘BMF’ of the UFC, Jorge Masvidal, within the span of just a year.

Sonnen also implied that Masvidal’s appreciation took a huge fall due to his loss against friend-turned-foe, Colby Covington. The fight had a huge storyline behind it.  Both the fighters had hurled insults at each other prior on numerous occasions, including the pre-fight press conferences.

Sonnen talked about his choice of the top 4 most bankable guys of the UFC. He also gave Masvidal a spot on his list. But, a few moments later, he also revealed how his audience had “scolded” him a lot of times just for including Masvidal in his current list.

‘The American Gangster’ iterated, “I’ve had a lot of you come out and scold me when I tell you that the second biggest star in MMA is Jorge Masvidal”.

He also described his audience’s reaction stating, “Many of you told me, Chael, that’s old news that is not the case. That’s not the case after he lost to Colby. That’s not the case after he attacked Colby”.

It’s pertinent to note that Masvidal had attacked Covington while “Chaos” visited the Papi Steak restaurant in Miami. Masvidal was reported as the aggressor of this altercation and also had to go through a lawsuit due to this act.

Jorge Masvidal had also failed to win over Colby Covington inside the Octagon

Prior to their unofficial altercation, “Gamebred” also took on “Chaos” in the main event of UFC 272 on 8 March 2022. There was a thoroughly heated build-up to the bout and brutal trash-talking by both fighters. But, Covington managed to get the better of Masvidal.

“Chaos” displayed utter domination in the fight with his awesome wrestling skills. He won via unanimous decision after all 5 rounds. Hence, the attack on Covington by Masvidal after his defeat inside the Octagon might have been perceived as a cowardly act by most fight fans.

Sonnen also stated, “I said Masvidal was no. 2 and now I got a list of 4″.

But as of now, most fans didn’t want to see Sonnen including Masvidal in his top 4 list. A lot would also agree that Sonnen had rightly picked out the reason for the drastic decline in Masvidal’s appreciation.
