UFC Legend Quinton Jackson Recalls Getting His Nickname “Rampage” at 8: “I Was Hitting the Walls”

Quinton Jackson is one of the most notable UFC fighters in history. He more famously went by the name ‘Rampage’ Jackson. He recently appeared in the UFC rising star Paddy Pimblett‘s ‘Chattin Pony’ podcast on YouTube and reiterated how he arrived at his nickname.

Quinton Jackson has had a memorable career over the years. He has fought in multiple promotions, including Pride Fighting Championships, Bellator MMA, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Let us take a look at how Jackson got his ‘Rampage’ moniker.

Quinton Jackson got his nickname from a video game

The former UFC champion mentioned that he was around eight years old when his cousin gave him the ‘Rampage’ nickname. He said, “My cousin named me ‘Rampage’ when I was a little kid. I was around eight years old.” He then mentioned the video game which he used to play with his cousin, which became the reason for his nickname. Jackson added, “I don’t know if you know. It’s a video game called ‘Rampage’ back in the day and I used to play it all the time.”

Jackson expressed his love for gaming when he was a young child. “I have always been a big gamer. Every time my family comes over, I guess it was my favorite game at the time.” said the former UFC star.

Jackson’s cousin named him ‘Rampage’ because of his temper

Quinton Jackson mentions that he had a bad temper growing up. His siblings and cousins would make fun of him, and then he ended up beating them. He said, “My cousin and my sister and brother, they used to make fun of me because they wanted to see me lose my temper and I would hyperventilate and I always used to beat them up.” However, due to his physicality, Jackson would end up getting in trouble.

Jackson’s mother would take away his video games, and after that, the former UFC champion realized that he needed to stop beating up his siblings and cousins. He then resorted to other means. The former UFC star said, “What I did was …I was hitting the walls, putting holes in the walls, and beating up others …beating up the doors, beating up the walls and then my cousin was like ‘You’re just like that video game man, ‘Rampage’, just like that video game.” 

Jackson mentions that his cousin called him ‘Rampage’ because he wanted to see him get mad and continued to keep calling him by that name. However, it stuck with him and he became famous for that nickname around the world. He is not just an aggressive fighter, but an outspoken individual, too. The UFC fans will always remember Quinton Jackson as one of the best UFC fighters ever.
