In a recent interview, Nurmagomedov talked about his three favorite fighters. However, to add to Nurmagomedov’s happiness, one of them, Mauricio Shogun Rua, posted a video of Nurmagomedov saying Shogun Rua was one of his favorite fighters from his childhood. The gesture of his favorite undoubtedly moved Nurmagomedov, so the Eagle shared the post to his Instagram story.

 In an interview with Sk MMA, Nurmagomedov was asked about his favorite fighter. As an answer to the question, Nurmagomedov said, “When I grew up, it was two, maybe three. Three my favorite fighters, when I was 16. They was on prime. It was Fedor, it was Mauricio Shogun Rua, and Georges St-Pierre. It was three guys, he was on prime. It was like UFC and pride champions and I was grew up watching their fights, you know and when I meet them first, it was like very big emotional for me, you know. Because I grew up with their fights.”

In the video Nurmagomedov named Fedor Emelianenko, Mauricio Shogun Rua, and Georges St-Pierre as his favorite childhood fighters. The footage went viral, and many noticed the same.

To the great surprise of the Russian fighter, one of his favorites, Shogun Rua, took to his Instagram handle and shared the video. The caption he gave under the video moved the hearts of many. Shogun Rua wrote: “Thanks @khabib_nurmagomedev for the respect and admiration.” He added “I also have a lot of respect for you“

The legacy of the fighters

The retired UFC fighter, Shogun Rua, had a remarkable fighting career. There is no doubt why Nurmagomedov chose him as one of his favorites. Shogun Rua, while in the UFC, had won the light heavyweight championship title. His other favorite, Georges St-Pierre, is considered one of the best MMA fighters of all time.

The Canadian fighter has earned the belt in two weight divisions, which include welterweight and middleweight. On the other hand, Fedor Emelianenko is a very famous and dominant MMA fighter, but he was never been a part of the UFC. Emelianenko is of the best heavyweights of his time. UFC president Dana White, had negotiated with Emelianenko to join the promotion, however, it never came to fruition.

However, Nurmagomedov shocked the entire UFC world by announcing his retirement from the promotion in 2021, followed by his father’s death, who was his coach and mentor.
