Hall of Famer Michael Bisping believes this has set up a potential Chimaev vs Strickland fight.
Michael Bisping discussed some of the recent happenings in the MMA world in a recent ‘Believe You Me‘ podcast episode. Michel Bisping reveals why Sean Strickland vs Khamzat Chimaev should take place
Given that the new middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis is probably looking likely to fight Israel Adesanya even though fans think Sean Strickland should have a rematch. But Michael Bisping believes that the former champion fighting Khamzat Chimaev, who’s also talking about a potential title shot, makes more sense. This is especially due to the revelation of the sparring story. Bisping said, “If Izzy’s fighting Dricus, hey Sean vs Khamzat, because when you start talking that kinda sh*t, that’s gonna get a response from somebody like Sean, you would have thought.”
The Hall of Famer further went on to recall a video clip that surfaced online. In the clip, Sean Strickland was seen asking Khamzat Chimaev to slow down. That video went viral on social media when it popped up online. That video seemingly complements what Chimaev said about beating Strickland in sparring.
“Remember that video doing the rounds a while ago? Sean, he’s being filmed, and he goes over [and] he says to Khamzat, ‘Hey, take it easy, take it easy. You’re better than everybody here… just take it down a notch,'” recalled Michael Bisping. However, he admitted that he didn’t know what the reality behind that video clip was.
“I don’t know what the context of that video was. We don’t know what happened before that,” Bisping added. Meanwhile, he was surprised by what was said in the video given that he had also witnessed instances where Sean Strickland would go too far with his sparring partners. Let’s see what he had to say about that.
Bisping recalls Strickland’s aggressiveness in sparring
Sean Strickland is known to pretty much spar most of the time in the day. Oftentimes, the former champion is seen getting too hard on his own sparring partners. Moreover, he even tends to fight people who’ve never had training, even social media influencer Nina Marie-Daniele, although that was just a light-hearted moment between the two. Keeping that in mind, Michael Bisping further stated, “We’ve seen plenty of footage of Strickland beating the sh*t out of sparring partners. We’ve seen him beating the sh*t out of people who don’t even train.”

Due to the aforementioned reason, the Hall of Famer found it hard to believe that Sean Strickland would complain about going too hard during training. But again, the context regarding that situation is still unclear. “So, it is a little rich that Sean saying, ‘Hey, take it easy on everyone cos’ you’re just so good’… there’s many ways you can look at that,” Michael Bisping added.

Both Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev have proved themselves to be fan favorites. They both have their own sets of loyal fans and a fight between them could be a headliner without having any kind of championship on the line. It remains to be seen how Dana White navigates this situation, as a fight between the two middleweights could be good for pay-per-view buys.
