MMA is not a career, it is an opportunity. These were the words said by the CEO of UFC, Dana White back in 2020. His statements made headlines in the MMA world at the time. In a recent turn of events, Malcolm Gordon, a flyweight fighter, has been dropped by the UFC. The 33-year-old had been in the UFC since 2020. After seven fights, he had only two victories. Moreover, in his last three fights, he was finished, that too, not by fighters in the top flight of the division. His last fight in the UFC took place just weeks ago at UFC 297.

According to White, opportunities in the sport are limited. Moreover, it is only limited to those who are at the top of the food chain. However, for most people, it is a chance to be exposed to the public and make the most of it when the time comes. Reflecting on the same, he stated, “MMA is not a career, it’s an opportunity. And you go out and make the most of your opportunity when you get the chance.”
