UFC News: Islam Makhachev Goes Against Dana White to Give Dustin Poirier the Title Shot in June

Dustin Poirier was a beast last night and seems like ‘the diamond’ will continue its shine. UFC 299 witnessed the classic Dustin Poirier in its domain against French sensation Benoit Saint-Denis. Their fight started off as an equal match but Poirier let everyone know why he is considered as one of the greats of the game. ‘Diamond’ knocked out Saint-Denis in the second round clinching the victory and seems like Poirier is now moving towards Islam Makhahchev.

Poirier is one of the best fighters on the UFC roster who is yet to be crowned as a champion. He was the former interim lightweight champion and seems like it is time for the ‘Diamond’ to clinch the gold. In his latest escapade, Poirier seems to be taking the initiative to challenge the champion, Islam Makhachev and it appears like Makhachev is ready for it as well.

Dustin Poirier was the underdog in his match against Benoit Saint-Denis but ‘Diamond’ came out as the victor of the bout and now he has sights on only one thing: The ‘155’ gold. Islam Makhachev is waiting for a fight and seems like Poirier will be the one to quench Makhachev’s thirst for a better fight.

After the victory, Poirier took to his X (Formerly Twitter) handle to challenge Makhachev, ” Islam in June.” In response to Poirier’s tweet, and Makhachev added two emojis agreeing with the fight. Under Makhachev’s tweet, a fan stated that Makhachev should wait for Charles Olieviera and Justin Gaethje for a fight but the champion replied that he had waited enough.

Both Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier are ready to clash. Interestingly, ahead of Poirier’s fight against Saint-Denis, Makhachev’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz hinted at a matchup between the fighters.

There are rumors that Makhachev would fight either Justin Gaethje or the winner of Arman Tsarukyan vs. Charles Oliveira, however, there have been no official statements yet. Interestingly, Poirier was spotted alongside Ali Abdelaziz ahead of his clash against Saint-Denis.

From their interaction, it can be decided that they are trying to set a matchup between him and Makhachev. Get this win and fight Islam in June,” said Ali Abdelaziz.  In response to Abdelaziz, a fired-up Poirier replied “Let’s go!”  The Interaction is now acting as a verbal agreement between Poirier and Team Khabib. However, things can change in the future.
