The undefeated UFC middleweight Khamzat Chimaev has been talked about quite a lot in recent times, leading up to the UFC 297 event. The attention is an aftermath of people speculating that the undefeated middleweight would be granted the next title shot for the middleweight strap regardless of whoever wins the fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis.

‘Borz’ in a recent interview with a media outlet had a lot of praise for the UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. However, in the interview, the undefeated middleweight despite having much praise for the UFC goat, made a comment which might have irked the heavyweight champ.

In the interview, Chimaev had a lot of praise coming the way of the heavyweight champ. However, this isn’t a surprise as the undefeated middleweight praised Jones in the past, even claiming that he was his favorite MMA fighter. What was surprising was the ‘Borz’ calling out ‘Bones’ in the interview.

The interviewer asked Chimaev who would win against Jones and him if they were both in their prime. The UFC middleweight stated, “Depends on which weight class”. He went on to praise the heavyweight champion for his performance against his teammate, Alexander Gustafsson, in the past but then stated, “For sure I want to fight with (Jon Jones) so it will be a big history if we fight. Since Alex gave him the best fight in history, now maybe it’s my time to fight him, as well.”

The heavyweight champion didn’t take too lightly to the comment made by Khamzat Chimaev, so he took to X to address the situation. In his tweet, Jones wrote, “Khamzat Chimaev stop it, don’t let people ask you those questions.” Advising the undefeated prospect to be weary when talking to the media.

Jon Jones has proven for over a decade why people consider him as the best MMA fighter to ever do it. His win against Ciryl Gane just showed how he was leagues ahead of the competition. And Khamzat Chimaev knows it better than anyone in the division. So what fight could be likely for the wolf of Czechia?

What should be the next fight for ‘Borz?’

Khamzat Chimaev has secured himself in a very good position with the UFC. Given that ‘Borz’ still hasn’t fought any top 5 fighters in the UFC middleweight division, his claim to a title shot comes into question for a lot of people. Chimaev unfortunately had to step away from competition as he injured his hand in his fight against Usman. However, Dana White did announce his fight against Kamaru Usman, which he won. It was a number one contender fight for the middleweight gold.

Upon Borz’s return, there are a few fights that make sense for the Chechen. He could return to take on the winner for Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland for the UFC gold. Another good fight to make would be against the former middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, for the number one contender spot. Or a return against Paulo Costa to pick up where they left off, as Costa pulled out from an injury in their last fight.
