One of the biggest attractions of UFC 301 is the return of former champion Jose Aldo. The 37-year-old announced his retirement from the sport in 2022 after losing to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278. But the former champion will once again make a comeback for his fans.

‘Scarface’ will be taking on Jonathan Martinez in his comeback fight. Chael Sonnen recently took to his YouTube channel and seemed excited about the return of Aldo. However, he did point out a ‘clue’ which may not impress the Brazilian fans.

Jose Aldo is, without a doubt, a legend of the sport. His impressive performances and his records are second to none. However, his absence from the Octagon for two years is a concern for many. One of the biggest concerns for the fans is his opponent, Jonathan Martinez. The 30-year-old is currently on a six-fight winning streak and might prove too much for the veteran fighter. However, the problem doesn’t quite end for the former champion here. Adding to his worries, former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen claimed that the UFC was not backing the veteran fighter.

The 47-year-old said, “Jose Aldo revealed a very interesting clue. He said that he does not have a new contract. That he is just finishing out his original contract, that he had one fight left on his original contract. That he was not given an extension. Now that would be a clue if he didn’t get an extension offer that the promotion does not believe he’s going to win. But how accurate do you think that is?”

Based on his current form, the Brazilian will definitely have his work cut out against ‘The Dragon’. However, one must not forget about the skill set the former champions possess. With doubts hovering around Aldo’s comeback, his long-time fan, Joe Rogan, reminded the world about his quality in his recent JRE episode.

Joe Rogan terms Jose Aldo as the greatest ever

There are very few athletes in the UFC who have replicated the success of ‘Scarface’. The Brazilian legend began his career at the age of 16 and is still going strong at the age of 37. Despite being included in the Hall Of Fame, Aldo still has some unfinished business inside the Octagon. At the fag end of his career, ‘Scarface’ has lost a bit of momentum going into the UFC 301 fight. However, Joe Rogan, in a recent UFC 301 roundup, shared his honest opinion about the former champion.

The UFC color commentator has witnessed some of the best fighters from close quarters. Regardless, he had no second thoughts in labeling Aldo as the greatest featherweight ever. In a recent interview he said, “When it comes to skill, he is unequal. When we think about Aldo, we think about all those years of dominance in featherweight. He was a monster! He was a destroyer! The greatest featherweight in the history of the sport Jose Aldo Jr.”

‘Scarface’ has only one fight left in his contract and will have a lot to prove when he enters the Octagon in his hometown. Do you think he can pull off a victory at UFC 301 next? Let us know in the comments below.
