Sean Strickland wasn’t pleased with the judges at UFC Vegas 90. The event featured a middleweight clash between Strickland’s friend and teammate Chris Curtis and Brendan Allen. Both men had previously faced one another in 2021 at UFC Vegas 44 where Curtis finished Allen in the second round with a barrage of punches and knees.

While the rematch was also an action-packed affair, Curtis lost the bout via split decision after 5 rounds. As such, Strickland took to social media to blast the judging and scorecards for this bout in his trademark fashion as he felt Curtis had clearly done enough to be declared the winner!

At UFC Vegas 90, Brendan Allen was originally scheduled to face Marvin Vettori. However, Vettori had to withdraw from the bout due to an injury shortly before the event. As such, Chris Curtis decided to step up and replace him on short notice.

The fight was a closely contested affair, with both men having their moments inside the octagon, but at the end of the 5 rounds, the judges awarded the split decision victory to Allen. And so, former UFC middleweight champion, Sean Strickland took to social media to highlight his issues with the results and the judging of the fight.

He shared a screenshot of the fight starts on his X account and stated, “UFC ‘Curt we need you on a week notice’ ME ‘Curt you haven’t really been training because you wanted to take time off for you new baby, just say no’ Curt goes and out strikes a guy coming off the couch with a week of training lmao!”

Strickland’s post also drew a comment from Marvin Vettori, Allen’s original opponent for the night, who stated, “I think Curt did great and to be honest won, there was never any damage caused on the ground. He got surprised with the takedown and got stalled out for a bit but couple times he was close to end the fight.”

And Strickland responded by posting, “As a friend of Curt that scorecard is embarrassing lmao… I’m not saying because I’m his friend. He had his newborn and just wanted a few months to chill out and he comes off the couch and out strikes a guy with a full camp…embarrassing.”

Strickland’s commentary shed light on the frustrations surrounding the judging process in MMA and highlighted the unpredictability of fight outcomes in the sport. Fighters have often felt like they’ve done enough to win only to be disappointed when the scorecards are read out. And while Strickland has been vocal about wanting to rematch Dricus Du Plessis to avenge his loss against the man who took his title, a UFC veteran seems to think there’s another matchup that would make sense for ‘Tarzan’!

‘The Count’ wants to see Strickland take on ‘The All-American’

Former UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping and Anthony Smith seem to think Chris Weidman needs a ‘name’ for his next bout and according to them, there’s no one better than Sean Strickland!

Weidman, a UFC veteran and a former champion himself, recently picked up his first victory inside the Octagon since 2020 when he won against Bruno Silva at UFC on ESPN 54. Initially declared a TKO finish, the win was later ruled a unanimous technical decision after it was revealed that Silva suffered an eye poke before the finishing sequence.

As such, on a recent episode of the ‘Believe You Me’ Podcast, Anthony Smith indicated that Weidman still possesses the skills to compete with the best in the middleweight division.  This prompted Bisping to state, “Give him Sean Strickland, Sean Strickland-Chris Weidman: ‘The All-American’ against ‘Here’s the thing guys’ American. Do it. I think that’s a good matchup.”

It remains to be seen if the proposed matchup does materialize or if the UFC has other plans in mind. Nevertheless, it would be an interesting fight due to the stylistic differences between the two men.
