Every mouth must confess the fact that there’s hardly any fighter in the current UFC roster that can bring in as much revenue as Conor McGregor. The former dual weight champion ranks as one of the most well-known fighters in the history of the sport and this is one of the reasons why he is still relevant at this time even though he has not fought in the promotion since 2021.

Regardless, McGregor is about to make his comeback and this has started a debate in the MMA community. Will he go for the title shot if he defeats Michael Chandler and will team Khabib agree to give ‘Mystic Mac’ a chance at the lightweight gold? Many might think that the fight doesn’t even make sense as we have better contenders in the division but things are quite different when it comes to McGregor.

The answer to the above questions has been answered by Javier Mendez in his recent escapade with ‘Submission Radio’. When asked about their intentions about the McGregor fight, Mendez made it clear that they had no problem with the fight. “Massive fight, a massive amount of money, you know. At the end of the day, when you’re a champion, you’re a prize fighter, right? We fight for the prize—the money,” said Mendez.

He further added, “So, it’s a massive fight for Islam, and it will bring up his stock tremendously. So, yeah, definitely Conor. Conor brings that to the table regardless of whether we like him or don’t like him. He still brings a huge, huge amount of audience to watch. You know, I personally don’t like him because of what he says.”

Mendez emphasizes despite reservations towards Conor McGregor, there is interest in a potential fight due to its massive appeal globally. Interestingly, even Islam Makhachev is ok with that fight.

Islam Makhachev has no issues with McGregor’s fight

The lightweight champion seems to have no problem with giving Conor McGregor a chance at the ‘155’ lbs gold. In his most recent outing with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo on Pound4Pound, Islam Makhachev was asked about his opinion on a possible clash with McGregor to which the Dagestani just laughed it off and said that there’s no way he is saying no to that fight.

“I don’t think he wants to cut weight. Brother, why not? People have to be stupid to say no. Of course, I will fight with him. Brother, when I will fight next? October or November? I can fight August or September with McGregor. This guy not same. I don’t want to make him feel or look bad, but everybody knows this guy not same. Before, yeah, for sure. When he was fighting with Khabib, he in the good shape. He a high-level fighter, but right now, too much alcohol, too much whiskey and it’s not same.” said Makhachev.

The last time McGregor won in the promotion was back in 2020 when he fought against Donald Cerrone since then McGregor has yet to taste victory but things might change on June 29th. What are your thoughts on Islam Makhachev vs. Conor Mcgregor? State your opinions in the comments below.
