It’s official! Cory Sandhagen, aka UFC’s ‘Sandman’ has locked himself in for his headliner bout at UFC Nashville. After a successful weigh-in at 139 lbs, he’s ready to take on fellow catchweight rival Rob Font. Although the first choice for ‘Sandman’s opponent at Bantamweight was Umar Nurmagomedov, the fight fell apart due to the Russian’s sudden withdrawal from the bout.

But not all fighters on the UFC Nashville Fight Night card were as lucky as the former interim UFC Bantamweight Championship challenger. Dennis ‘The Great’ Buzukja – a #2nd ranked Pro Men’s Featherweight in the US Northeast, lost his chance to square off in the event. Why? The bout between Buzukja and Sean ‘The Sniper’ Woodson came through on very short notice. After a series of replacements, ‘The Sniper’ ultimately landed a fight with ‘The Great.’ But the promotional newcomer’s dreams of making it to a UFC octagon fell through in an ironic twist.

At the weigh-ins, almost all fighters passed with flying colors, including Buzukja’s opponent Sean ‘The Sniper’ Woodson. While ‘The Sniper’ made it through the weigh-ins at 146 lbs, his counterpart ‘The Great’ missed weight by 0.5 lbs. The failure to comply with the featherweight restrictions has landed him a fine of 20% on his purse for the fight. The proceeds of the fine will go straight to Woodson.

But there’s still hope for fans! After all, it’s another ‘Sandman’ show that’s kept MMA fans buzzing about this weekend’s UFC Fight Night.

After Nurmagomedov withdrew from the bout, it was not clear why he pulled out from the fight. But the real reason behind his exit from the card has come to light recently. According to sources, the 27-year-old Russian withdrew from the fight citing a severe shoulder injury. It’s also believed that the ‘Young Eagle’ will have to undergo surgery and will be out of the game for a while.

On another note, this event will account for the UFC’s sixth edition in Nashville, after a long gap, since 2019. After the ‘Young Eagle’s exit from the fight card – Sandhagen will now fight at the catchweight level. The now #4 Bantamweight started off his UFC career with five wins in a row. But after his brief stint of winning streaks, he slipped in three fights.

Now, ‘The Sandman’ is coming into the fight on a two-fight win streak. His last victory came over Marlon Vera, at his most recent bout in March of this year. Nevertheless, this will be the first time that the #4 UFC Bantamweight will clash with Font. Are we going to see another upset at UFC Fight Night Nashville?
