The UFC 300 card is shaping out to be a great one, to say the least. While Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan are trying to find their way to a title shot, MMA legend Chael Sonnen recently insinuated that Dana White has other plans. He believes that the BMF title fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway could be a number one contender’s match.

Arman Tsarukyan revealed his plans to fight for the title after the knockout victory over Beneil Dariush. Meanwhile, Charles Oliveira was scheduled to fight Islam Makhachev in a rematch for the lightweight strap, but he pulled out due to injury. Now that both fighters are stepping up to each other to get to the champion, things may not be as easy as it seems.

UFC 300 will feature two lightweight bouts – Gaethje vs Hollway and Oliveira vs Tsarukyan. Since the BMF title will be on the line, ‘The Highlight’ and ‘Blessed’ are probably going to be featured later on the show, according to Chael Sonnen. As such, he believes that their fight could very well be the main 155-pound fight on the UFC’s triple-century pay-per-view.

Justin Gaethje, as a champion, will walk out later than [Charles] Oliveira and Arman [Tsarukyan], which means Gaethje and Max [Holloway] is the feature match on that weight class on that evening,” said Sonnen. To explain the theory behind this assumption, he mentioned that a card has two fights of the same weight class, and the one that takes place later always has something on the line.

Due to his aforementioned reason, Chael Sonnen believes that Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway will fight to earn a lightweight title shot against Islam Makhachev. He added “By default [it means] somebody else on the same weight class, on the same evening cannot be at higher stakes. It is impossible, which means Gaethje and Max is the number one contender’s fight and there’s no way around that.”

This will seemingly put Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan in a predicament as they’ve been chasing the title too. Nevertheless, ‘The American Gangster shared a reminder that this has always been the way fight promoters do business. Meanwhile, Islam Makhachev seems to have already revealed who he wishes to fight next.

Islam Makhachev already named Justin Gaethje as his next opponent

Given that his fight against Charles Oliveira did not take place at UFC 294, fans were hoping to see that Islam Makhachev could be looking to fight the Brazilian next. But that doesn’t seem to be in his plans. the lightweight champion laid out his 2024 plans recently, where he mentioned planning to fight twice. Surprisingly, Oliveira found himself in second place as Makhachev was planning to fight Justin Gaethje first.

“June 8 UFC PPV vs [Gaethje], November UFC MSG vs Olivera/Arman, February 2025 vs Anybody Inshallah,” wrote Islam Makhachev on Twitter (X). It seems like Dana White had already planned this earlier, which led to Islam Makahcev revealing his plans for this year on social media.
