The fact that Conor McGregor pulled out from UFC 303 because of an injury hasn’t sunk in well for many MMA personalities. Analysts like Chael Sonnen can’t seem to understand why nobody has specified what kind of injury the Irishman suffered. However, with everything said and done, ‘The American Gangster’ thinks there is more to the issue than meets the eye.

‘The Notorious’ hasn’t talked about his pullout, except for responding to fan backlash via an Instagram post. With a new main event scheduled between Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka, Chael Sonnen is digging into the Conor McGregor situation and shared an analysis of it with a bold claim on YouTube.

Chael Sonnen claims Conor McGregor and the UFC may be “creating an idea”

Who doesn’t want to see Conor McGregor in action? Well, everyone does because of the entertainment that he brings along with his ever-vocal trash-talking skills. But we won’t be getting that anytime soon and the fact that the people who know the inside details of his injury aren’t being fully transparent has made Chael Sonnen a bit skeptical about it.

“The cover-up is worse than the crime. So when Conor has people coming out and saying that he’s injured on his behalf, it’s a tough spot man,” Chael Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel. It was ‘The American Gangster’ who provided the news of the Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler fight getting scrapped when there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding it. Sonnen also claimed that when the truth eventually comes out, things could get worse for Dana White and McGregor’s entourage.

“The people that are doing it do not want to be doing that… because they know sooner or later it is going to come out, and that he wasn’t injured at all, and then they lose credibility or you have Conor in a doctor’s office or what is staged to appear to be a doctor’s office that never says anything other than, ‘Hey, we’re going to get this handled,'” Chael Sonnen further stated.

Chael Sonnen is pretty confident that the injury is just a way to cover up a bigger issue that’s at play. “It’s one of those things where you’re creating an idea and an image… [It’s] Conor creating the idea that he’s hurt,” the former UFC fighter added. Meanwhile, Conor McGregor has promised that his fight against Michael Chandler will indeed happen, but for Chael Sonnen, 2024 may not be the year for it.

McGregor’s comeback isn’t happening this year, claims Sonnen

While discussing the UFC’s biggest superstar’s situation with Daniel Cormier, Chael Sonnen made a rather worrying assessment of the Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler fight on the ‘Good Guy/Bad Guy’ show. The former UFC title challenger appeared skeptical about the Irishman’s comeback, claiming that his return to the Octagon may not happen in 2024, even though some reports claimed that he may not be out with the injury for more than two months.

“People definitely want to see him [Chandler] fight but he doesn’t have anyone that remotely comes close to having the drama and the steam of Conor McGregor. So, I’ve been for Chandler moving on from the beginning. At this point, I say wait just a little bit longer… Do we see this in 2024? Not a chance,” said Chael Sonnen. Well, given the nature of how the UFC handled his pullout by keeping fans in the dark about the reason behind it, the UFC legend’s words could come true.
