Conor McGregor is arguably the biggest star of the UFC. ‘Mystic Mac’ is a ‘two-weight division’ champion of the UFC. The ‘sniper’ left hand of the Irishman is one of the most reputed weapons inside the Octagon. But, ‘The Notorious’ has now been on an over-a-year-long time-out from the octagon. His social media updates show that he has also buffed up significantly compared to his days inside the Octagon. Recently, McGregor went live on Instagram and revealed that he might be 265 lbs currently, which even beats the ‘off-season’ weight of his idol, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

There have been multiple instances where McGregor had got a chance to meet his idol. Schwarzenegger has contested in most of his bodybuilding championships with a weight of 235lbs, whereas his off-season weight is reported to be about 260lbs. But, McGregor’s recently goofily claimed in his Instagram live, “I don’t know mate but I am big. I’d say about 265lb in the bank.” His joke that he weighs 265lbs went on to surpass both the on and off-season weight of his idol.

McGregor respects Schwarzenegger from his heart

‘The Notorious’ turns a humble fanboy in the presence of ‘The Terminator’. McGregor met ‘The Austrian Oak’ for the first time in 2013 at a rehab centre. He had also uploaded this moment on Twitter, captioning it, “In rehab today and in walks Arnold @Schwarzenegger !! A true honour to meet this LIVING LEGEND!!! Thanks to @HMilliPT”.

It is quite apparent that the entire McGregor family is a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger. ‘The Notorious’ also often compares his current buffed-up physique and tries to present himself as Schwarzenegger sometimes through his social media posts.

Conor McGregor has also faced backlash from some of his fans

A lot of MMA fans have derided McGregor for this unhealthy obsession with portraying himself as Schwarzenegger. On 22 September 2022, McGregor put out a snap of himself on his Twitter and Facebook accounts, where he looked all jacked up.

He also captioned his tweet, “Arnie” which enraged the fans. But, McGregor received bashing comments like, “He don’t like being called Arnie. If you were a fan of him you would know” and “Don’t compare yourself to a true legend.”

Currently, McGregor claims to have surpassed the ‘Bodybuilding Legend’ in terms of weight.

But, he hasn’t received any negative opinions from his fans yet. We all will hope that ‘The boy from the streets of Crumlin’ doesn’t compare himself or boast of defeating his idol in terms of weight.

My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
