Alex Pereira emerged superior in his main event fight against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300. The fight did not last too long as many had expected. Hill had touted himself as a fearsome competitor, but perhaps his expectations were the ones that fell flat the most.

Pereira is a different animal. That must be acknowledged by everyone within the UFC and outside of it, too. Before the main event, Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje put up a brilliant, striking matchup that went the 5 round length and then there was the match involving ‘Poatan’ which could have ended had you blinked a little too long. And it also marked the breaking of the ‘Drake Curse’.

Alex Pereira breaks the ‘Drake Curse’ in the very first round

The summary is, if you enter to Drake’s music or he bets on you, you may just lose the fight. This phenomenon has shown itself across many sports including the UFC. One of the most recent incidents involved the rapper wagering about $700,000 on Sean Strickland at UFC 297.

While Strickland lost, Alex Pereira did not. In fact, for many observers, it wasn’t even a matchup. Pereira knocked out Jamahal Hill at 3 minutes and 14 seconds of the very first round. That too, right after suffering an accidental groin strike from his opponent.

So, when he was asked about the whole Drake situation, his mind was clear. In the post fight press-conference, someone asked the champ if he’d ask Drake to buy him something after the rapper made about $1.2 million with his win. What did ‘Poatan’ say?

“No, if he had lost, I wouldn’t give my money to him. So if he wins, props to him. Thank you.” Clearly, after having a rough time in the music industry with multiple artists releasing diss tracks on him, looks like Drake has finally caught a break of good times. And so has ‘Poatan. So, what’s next for him?

Next destination: Heavyweight division

Alex Pereira has already conquered two division 8 fights into his UFC career. That speaks volumes for who he is and how much power he packs in those ‘hands of stone’. Now, after being a middleweight and a light heavyweight champion of the world, ‘Poatan’ wants to go to the heavyweight division.

Thought a lot about fighting in Brazil. I won this fight and I’m not hurt, nothing happened.” He said in the post fight interview. I know there should be a lot of promotion behind a fight, but you know, I wanna have a fight at heavyweight,”  he told Joe Rogan. How do you feel about Alex Pereira setting his eyes on the heavyweight division? Will he have similar success there? Let us know in the comments.
