The UFC will return to Toronto, Canada after six years for its first PPV event for 2024 at UFC 297, headlined by a grudge match between middleweight champion Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis at the Scotiabank Arena.
This will be preceded by Mayra Bueno Silva vs. Raquel Pennington for the vacant women’s bantamweight title, among other stellar matchups. Fans are predictably excited for the card. And one of the most important parts of watching a UFC event live is the commentary. Although the commentary team for UFC 297 has yet to be announced, one thing could be speculated as a certainty, Joe Rogan will not be calling the event.

Dominick Cruz replaces Joe Rogan for UFC 297! Reason for Rogan’s absence
As per the recent update, Joe Rogan will not be attending the UFC 297 event. Instead, he will be replaced with the UFC veteran Dominick Cruz. The 38-year-old will be accompanied by Jon Anik and former UFC champ Daniel Cormier. Fans expected Laura Sanko to also be at the commentary table. However, she will not be a part of the UFC 297’s commentary team.
Stand-up comedian and long-time UFC commentator Joe Rogan is not calling the January 20 card as he did the last time UFC was in Toronto for UFC 231 in 2018. This is because the JRE podcast host has decided not to travel abroad to call UFC events as he used to do earlier.

The multi-millionaire commentates in the UFC entirely because he likes the sport and does not make much money from it. He felt that travelling abroad was preventing him from doing stand-up gigs, which pay him more money too. He does call domestic cards but refuses to travel, even next door to Canada to call fights.

He was dismayed by what he perceived was the censorship and anti-gun policies of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau‘s government. He felt the country was headed down the path of authoritarianism and needed “an overhaul of government”.
