The former undisputed Champ at featherweight, Jose Aldo, is coming off a dominant decision to win over fellow Brazilian Pedro Munhoz. Prior to his fight with Munhoz, Aldo started training boxing at the Brazilian Navy boxing club. Since then, he has made significant improvements in his boxing. Aldo has naturally fast hands, but since training with the navy, his combinations and precisions with the jab seemed to have improved drastically.

Rob Font, on the other hand, is finally getting the respect he deserves as a fighter. Font in his previous showing against Cody Garbrandt put on an absolute clinic with his striking. He put a beat down on the former champ, Garbrandt, landing his powerful jab at will, only to follow it with his heavy right hand. Going into the matchup, many thought Garbrandt to be the better boxer of the two, but by the end, no one could deny the superiority of font. Font trains out of the highly respected “New England Cartel” gym in Boston under head coach Tyson Chartier.

Rob Font vs Jose Aldo analysis

Since both fighters have ‘boxing’ heavy styles, they will use a lot of the same tools against each other. The Game plan for Aldo going into this fight would be to use his footwork, moment, quick jab, and combinations to inflict damage early. The bladed nature of Font’s stance will also allow Aldo to land his signature devastating Low kicks. The Brazilian should also look to use his striking to open up shots to the body in an effort to drain Font’s gas tank and finish the fight.

Font’s game plan going into this fight will be to use his faints and head movement to set up and land the jab consistently. Once the jab is consistently landing, Rob quickly follows it up with his precise and devastating right hand. Font also has a very good calf kick and front kick up the middle, both techniques useful against the largely square boxing stance Aldo uses. Fonts jab is probably the best in the UFC; it’s quick, extremely powerful, and accurate.

Aldo historically hasn’t done well against strikers with a good jab and heavy pressure and this was visible in his loss to peter Yan. Font has a powerful jab that he has rocked many of his opponents with and he uses his jab to build most of his offense. Hence, how Aldo deals with the jab and Fonts control over range will be a major factor in how the fight turns out.
