The commentary team for the upcoming UFC Vegas 84 in Las Vegas on January 13 has reportedly been revealed and it will not feature Daniel Cormier or head of UFC’s play-by-play, Jon Anik. The card will feature a rematch between #7, light heavyweight Johnny Walker, and #3, Magomed Ankalaev after their bizarre no-contest at UFC 294 last October.

As per MMA Junkie, UFC Vegas 84 will be called by former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, former UFC lightweight Paul Felder, and long-time commentator Brendan Fitzgerald. The three men will call the card that will attempt to redo the Walker-Ankalaev bout that came about due to Walker’s reply to the cage-side doctor.

The UFC, as usual, has not roped in the bigwigs for the non-pay-per-view event and is going with the second squad. Bisping, Felder, and Fitzgerald will be the commentators for the event. And Fitzgerald, who is one of the newer additions to the UFC’s commentary team has spoken about being more comfortable in his role and promised to show more of his personality from this year.

“Looking to 2024, I would like to — and I don’t know how this will be received — display my personality a bit more,” Fitzgerald said in a recent interview.

Karyn Bryant is back on desk duty for the event and will join former UFC fighters Alan Joubon, and Din Thomas for the event. While the biggest names such as Joe Rogan, ‘DC’, and Jon Anik who fans recognize and love will not be calling the event, the card seems to be in good hands, especially when Walker is looking forward to redemption.

During their light heavyweight bout on the main card of UFC 294, Magomed Ankalaev hit Johnny Walker with an accidental illegal knee in the first round. The referee stopped the proceedings and immediately called the doctor to check on the Brazilian. However, Walker was deemed unfit to continue after he answered “somewhere in the desert” when asked which country he was in. And this bout will finally conclude what they started at UFC 294.

For the co-main event, Matheus Nicolau will rematch Manuel Kape after their 2021 fight which the former won via a split decision. Both men have won four of their last five fights. The main card will also feature a lightweight bout between Jim Miller and Gabriel Benitez, along with a bantamweight clash that will see Ricky Simon take on Mario Bautista.

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
