The UFC welterweight contender Geoff Neal has been on the sidelines for almost a year after health issues. He has learned that overcoming the same takes time and patience. Neal spectacularly ended 2019 with a first-round KO of Mike Perry. However, ‘Handz of Steel’ could not carry his momentum into the new year.

Geoff is now scheduled to fight Stephen Wonderboy Thompson on December 19. He spoke to Line Movement to give an update on his health and his upcoming fight.

The fighter explained, “I got sick. I think it was the beginning of August and then I was sick for like two weeks and then I was on bed rest for like another like three weeks. I finally got back to training full-time in like mid-September.”

Recovery isn’t a fast process, and Neal has learned to let his body heal.  He added, “It was kind of like slowly progressing. Now I’m at the point where I’m really starting to ramp up my training.”

‘Handz of Steel is starting to feel like his old self again. He revealed that he finished an hour of running and engaged in thirty minutes of shadow boxing after that.

Making his way to the UFC from Dana White Contender Series, Geoff has looked very impressive. He has won all five fights in the company with four of them being stoppages. The fighter who has wins over the likes of Mike Perry, Niko Price, and Belal Muhammad, will look to get another big name on his resume.

It will be a tough task as ‘Handz of Steel’ is set to face arguably the best striker in the UFC in ‘Wonderboy’. Thompson is well known for his unorthodox strikes and has been a mainstay of the UFC welterweight division.
