UFC’s Gilbert Burns Gets Unsure of Overpowering Jake Paul in Sparring- “He Is Getting Better”

UFC welterweight Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns is one of the most liked fighters in the UFC. Despite holding a decent record of 22-6, with notable wins over big names such as Stephen Thompson, Tyron Woodley, and Jorge Masvidal, to name a few. But now, the 37-year-old BJJ specialist is on fight fans’ radar for something other than his accomplishments inside the Octagon.

Burns will have over 12 years of professional MMA experience by the time of his upcoming fight against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 299. The No. 4 ranked UFC welterweight definitely has a lot of experience under his belt. Some of his experience comes from sparring against all sorts of fighters. However, one rumor that caught the attention of fight fans was about him sparring with Jake Paul. Here’s what he had to say about the rumors.

In an episode of the Jaxxon podcast, former UFC legend ‘Rampage Jackson‘ asked ‘Durinho’ if he sparred against influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Gilbert Burns had a short answer for the UFC legend, simply stating, “I never did”.

The former UFC champion then proceeded to ask the 37-year-old if he would ever spar against the younger Paul brother. ‘Durinho’ responded by saying, “I will spar with him, why not?”

Burns was then asked how he’d fare against Jake Paul by Bear Degidio. He replied, saying that he was unsure, giving props to Paul’s boxing skills, and stated, “I don’t know, he’s getting better.”

Gilbert Burns is undeniably a true martial artist. He is a class act, and he is one of the best welterweights the UFC has to offer. He plans to put his name back in title contention as he aims to beat Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 299. But how good is Jack Della Maddalena?

Gilbert Burns’ opponent for UFC 299 is one of the best welterweight prospects in the UFC. Jack Della Maddalena is a 27-year-old fighter from Australia who is currently ranked No.11 in the UFC welterweight division.

Maddalena is on an absolute tear in the UFC, riding a six-fight win streak under the UFC banner. 7 if you were to include his unanimous win against Ange Loosa in Dana White’s Contender series. He was on a nine-fight-win streak before joining the UFC. The Australian has a professional record of 16-2, with two of his losses coming early in his career.
