Nurmagomedov made his debut only back in 2021. However, in a short space of time, he has left a mark, to the extent that certain fighters allegedly refused to fight him. The undefeated fighter was gunning for a fight for a substantial amount of time last year. Only a couple of months ago, he sent a stern warning to the UFC for getting a fight booked for him. The 27-year-old took to Instagram and said, “Hey [UFC] I don’t care with who. Just want to fight.”

Safe to say, the UFC was put on alert to get him a fight booked. Subsequently, a few weeks later, his manager, Ali Abdelaziz took his own X. account and revealed that the UFC was working on a fight for him. In addition, without revealing the opponent, he revealed that the date for this match-up is March 2nd. On X, he said, “Fight news March 2 who is excited?”
A week later, the fight was confirmed for Nurmagomedov. Needless to say, Nurmagomedov will now turn his focus to training for this bout. Now that the fight is booked, one might reasonably wonder if this is the bout that makes sense and if he is facing a formidable opponent. Think no further, as fans have come out in full force to make their opinions known, and it is quite blunt, to say the least.

Fans cut no slack for Umar Nurmagomedov
Nurmagomedov is coming off a massive lay-off. Yet, the fans expect him to face formidable fighters, and they do not consider Almakhan a tough challenge. Not to mention, as per UFC rankings, he is not a ranked fighter. Subsequently, the fans were not particularly excited about this match-up and made it evident. Following are a few fan reactions reflecting on the same:
One fan pointed out that this opponent is a downgrade for him and blamed his management.
damn! this dude has the worst management! from top 5 opponent to unranked.
— BrayMMA (@BrayMMA84) February 9, 2024
Whereas, one fan thought it was not his fault as other fighters in the division refused to fight him.
He had no choice to fight this guy since most people don't wanna fight him. That guy has 13 KO's out of 17 wins, interesting. Glad to see Umar back in there, hopefully he gets a fight vs a ranked fighter after that

On the contrary, one fan was not too pleased with this revelation and had a hostile prediction while making a sly dig at his cousin, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Pull out coming soon, it runs in their blood
— Sandwich (@SandwichBurger1) February 9, 2024
Meanwhile, one fan made a satirical tweet about him being favored.
Surely this should get him a title eliminator fight
— Rengoku McGregor (@RengokuMMA) February 9, 2024
On another one, a fan thought this match-up is too one-sided.
Umar -1000?

Whereas, one fan blamed the fighters in the division with some harsh words for not fighting him.
Top 15 should be ashamed. The UFC has to sign a new fighter just to get Umar a fight
— Combat Haven (@CombatHaven) February 9, 2024
Last but not least, on similar lines, one fan was simply shocked by the matchup.
