The year-2022 did not see a great start for Spotify and Joe Rogan, as the duo quickly found themselves being engulfed in controversy. The saga definitely had its fair share of negative impacts, but in the end, everything worked out. Both Rogan and Spotify managed to gain more users, as the controversy eventually subsided.

The UFC icon’s move to join the ranks of Spotify with his mega-popular show, Joe Rogan Experience, ushered in an era of change. The Swedish audio-video platform no longer limited itself just to music as it now emerged as the go-to place for podcasters.

The deal proved to be quite beneficial for Rogan, as well, as he raked in $100 million and more in revenue. It also saw Spotify become the exclusive partner of the podcast.

Shockingly, a brand new audio series has overtaken Spotify’s top-performing podcast in the charts. According to a report by latimes, Spotify’s very own original series “Batman Unburied” in collaboration with DC has beaten JRE.

Is the podcasting era of Joe Rogan over?

For more than 2 weeks, the audio series has managed to retain its number position, knocking Rogan down a spot. The show featured the likes of Winston Duke as Bruce Wayne, Hasan Minhaj as the Riddler, and Gina Rodriguez as Barbara Gordon.

The platform currently houses over 4 million podcasts, with 32 million listeners in the US alone. Rogan has long ruled over the charts ever since he made his debut on the platform. As, Head of Spotify’s talk studios, Julia McNamara believes audiobooks are the next chapter in evolution.

She said, “We feel like we have all the tools in place to get us to the next chapter of our audio evolution [with] really big swings while we know we’re also covered on the types of podcasts that current podcast listeners seem to really enjoy the most,”
