Unearthed Video Shows How Leon Edwards Pulled Off a Prime Conor McGregor at UFC 278

A fighter is incomplete without a good coaching team. The coaches and support team are just as important to the fighter as any other aspect of the fight game. 

While a fighter’s job is to go and compete, it’s the coaches that train the athlete and build a game plan for the fight.

Signs of great coaching were on display at the main event of UFC 278. When the challenger landed a perfectly placed head-kick, that hit the sweet spot and put the champion to sleep.

The kick was flawless; however, there was doubt in people’s minds. They termed the kick to be a mere fluke or just a Hail Mary swing. 

An answer to all those critiques was delivered through a video that surfaced, where Edwards’ coaches were analyzing Usman’s style of head movement and then made Edwards practice the same head kick, which finished the fight over and over again.

In the video, they can be seen saying, “If he starts throwing some shots and he starts dipping his head away. That’s when we’re looking for the head kick”

The corner of Edwards was not only successful at the gameplay from the perspective of the fight but also they were consistently motivating The Brit to not give up and not stop feeling sorry for himself.

It’s the moment where the fighter goes and replicates exactly the same move that he’s been practicing backstage. 

 We have seen it happen a couple of times where the fighters and their coaches have done an excellent breakdown of their opponent and, as a consequence have achieved flawless results.

The most prominent example would be the flying knee that Jorge Masvidal landed on Ben Askren at UFC 239. The shot was so well executed that it just took five seconds for ‘Gamebred’ to get the job done.

Another prime example is the left hand that McGregor was seen practicing backstage at UFC 194. The punch that put Jose Aldo to sleep in just 13 seconds.
