UFC BMF champion Jorge Masvidal is seemingly going down the spiral with his UFC career. Former UFC star Chael Sonnen believes that ‘Gamebred’ needs to revive his career. Jorge Masvidal had his last match in UFC against Colby Covington, which he lost.

Masvidal sports a UFC record of 35 wins and 16 losses. He had his peak year in 2018. But as of now, his UFC career has fallen into obscurity. He recently found himself in trouble following an assault on fellow UFC star Colby Covington. ‘Gamebred’ now faces the potential to spend a considerable amount of time in prison.

Although it is unsure when Masvidal might return to the octagon, UFC still hasn’t confirmed any plans regarding a potential fight for the 38-year-old fighter. But retired UFC fighter Chael Sonnen believes that Masvidal‘s career revival can only take place if he fights the current welterweight champion, Leon Edwards.

Chael Sonnen on Jorge Masvidal needing Kamaru Usman to stay injured

Chael Sonnen recently talked about Michael Bisping‘s list of ‘must-happen’ matches for 2023 in a video posted on his YouTube channel. He mentioned that Bisping‘s wish to see Masvidal taking on Conor McGregor may not work now. It could have been an exciting fight if it had taken place a year or two earlier. Sonnen believes that Masvidal is a smart fighter. “Masvidal is a thinker. He understands this sport, but there comes a time when you need an opponent. Masvidal can’t force that to happen,” said Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen believes ‘Gambred’ needs to scout for opponents since it will not happen by itself. Not many fighters will come forward to fight him. Masvidal is not the draw he once was. Sonnen believes that the BMF needs to face Leon Edwards if Kamaru Usman doesn’t recover from his injury sustained in his last match against the current welterweight champion.

“He [Masvidal] has something special with Leon [Edwards]. Masvidal appears to me to be putting a lot of eggs in the basket of Kamaru Usman doesn’t show up in March, he steps in,” said Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen also believes that it is a risk for Jorge Masvidal to take on Leon Edwards and said, “It’s a risk, it’s an outside shot. But I think he’s got a real opportunity there to go hard at Leon and hide the fact that he wants a title opportunity, the glitz, the glamor, and the money that comes with it.”

The fight between the two makes perfect sense since they already have a ready-made feud with each other. Although many fans have shut down the idea of that match. What are your thoughts? Drop your comments below.
