Ian Garry was set to fight at UFC 296 against Vicente Luque. However, he pulled out of the fight just some days before the fight. This led him to reschedule his fight twice, first in January at UFC 297 against Luque and now it’s scheduled for UFC 298 against Geoff Neal. But what was the cause for rebooking the fight twice?

Garry had to pull out of the UFC 296 card due to suffering from pneumonia. Later, he made claims that it was a way to evade Covington and Strickland in the press conference. Mainly because of the predicament he’s in with regards to people picking on his marriage. But that turned out to be far from the case.

In a new interview with the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the undefeated welterweight explained how he felt when the doctor told him that there was no way he would be able to compete till January. He told Helwani how he felt when he heard the news, saying, “I don’t know if I would say it was most trying time. It was upsetting. It was very, very upsetting.”

Ian Garry revealed how his sickness was to be the cause of another layoff, saying, “Because obviously, pneumonia has long-term effects that can pop up.” He told Helwani that it first started as a flu but later developed into pneumonia, which gutted the young Irishman.

Nonetheless, despite the predicament that he’s in, Garry told the MMA Hour that he was just excited about having his fight against Geoff Neal in February. As he said, “We have a date. We have an opponent. I’m gonna go in there and I’m going to channel all of my energy all of my missed joy from that opportunity to go and show the world, Ian Machado Garry in full fight, and I’m gonna wait and do that against Geof in February.”

Hopefully, Ian Machado Garry will have a full recovery by the time UFC 298 comes around. Given that Colby Covington has been critical of Garry over the past few days, it would be a treat for the fans to see the two fight inside the cage.

Colby Covington has been going on an absolute rant on Machado over the past month. Covington has called Garry a “legitimate c**k” and that didn’t stop there, as he even went on to call Garry’s wife a “vile lady”. He went on to claim that he would make sure that the young Irishman becomes a joke in the MMA world.

He later called Ian Garry out, saying, “I think he probably wants to settle the differences in the Octagon. It just so happens I like to fight in the Octagon, so if it needs to happen one day, I’d be honored to settle that.”
