When Elon Musk took over Twitter (now X) in 2022, he focused on generating revenue for the platform while also fostering transparency between users and developers. One significant initiative by X is the ‘Community Notes’ feature, which many consider revolutionary for the app. This feature has been instrumental in curbing fake news and misinformation. Interestingly, there were instances where the app held the CEO accountable, with Musk confessing to being caught by the feature on JRE.

Chiming in, Rogan said, “Community Notes, it’s the best! It’s incredible because everybody gets checked.” Musk reiterated his own experience of getting fact-checked by the open-source feature that doesn’t spare anyone – “Yes, including me. With Community Notes, all the software is open source, so you can recreate any given notes independently.”

The tech mogul claimed that some politicians even approached him to ͏remove certain n͏otes, but he refused – “Absolute transparency in every way. Sometimes I get asked, ‘Can you remove a note?’ – mostly by the left, but sometimes by the right. I’m like, I don’t even remove the notes on my own account! Nothing! And by the way, everything is totally open, so if I did that, it would stick out immediately, like a sore thumb. It’s not going to be subtle.”

Joe Rogan agreed with Elon Musk that fact-checked information is the best counter to misinformation – “That is the best counter to misinformation. Yeah, like let everybody look at it and say, ‘Okay, here’s what the actual facts say’.” Elon Musk’s appearance on the latest episode of JRE prompted Rogan to come out with his endorsement of former president Donald Trump.
