At UFC 255, Deiveson Figueiredo will make his first title defense against Alex Perez. The newly crowned UFC men’s flyweight champion won his belt in July by finishing Joseph Benavidez.
Heading into UFC 255, ‘Deus da Guerra’ was scheduled to face Cody Garbrandt. However, the former bantamweight champion was forced to pull out, leaving the door open for another worthy contender to take his place.

UFC analyst and former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz broke down Figueiredo’s fighting style.
Deiveson Figueiredo – Keys to Victory
Cruz is a future UFC Hall of Famer and one of the best analytic minds in the sport. He said, “Figueiredo is super good at staying moving. He doesn’t really sit still too much when you’re chasing him, he likes to get you to chase and make you miss. A lot of times he will even drop his hands.”
Having joined the UFC in 2017, Deiveson has finished six of his nine opponents in the promotion. While his style is unorthodox, ‘Deus da Guerra’ has excellent striking.

“We saw him versus Pantoja. His hands were literally at his hips and he was making him miss. And then all of a sudden he would come and land shots. Now you’re p*ssed off, now you’re chasing him. This is where he is really good, he makes you miss and then he pulls you in with big shots. He’ll pull this way (left) and throw this way (right.)”

‘The Dominator’ concluded, “What’s interesting is that he is twice as powerful because he’s pulling you into his shots. His hands are down at his hips. You think he going to make you miss and he’s hitting you. He’ll come up with uppercuts, He mixes it up so well. Very tricky.”

Originally booked for Feb 2020, Figueiredo would miss weight resulting in him being ineligible to claim the vacant flyweight title. The UFC was impressed by Deiveson’s performance and scheduled the fight for the second time with the title on the line.
This time, however, Deiveson did not disappoint. The Brazilain, having made weight, would put a beating on Benavidez and submit him in the very first round to become the new UFC flyweight champion.
