Khabib Nurmagomedov established Eagle Fighting Championship after he retired from MMA. The company gained the attention of all big sharks in combat and expanded its horizons beyond Russia. They have even signed veterans like Diego Sanchez and Kevin Lee.

Former UFC fighter Kevin Lee made his winning debut in the Eagle FC 46 main event against Diego Sanchez via unanimous decision. While ‘The Motown Phenom’ is Nurmagomedov’s employee now, they were divisional rivals in the UFC.

In a past video, ‘The Eagle’ described Lee and many other UFC fighters in one-word responses. He had said, “Justin Gaethje-tough. Nate Diaz- marijuana. Yes, this is what I think I can talk everything what I want. Kevin Lee- give up. Dana White- big head. Colby Covington- trash. Daniel Cormier- like pancakes.”

Kevin Lee wanted to fight Nurmagomedov following his TKO win over Edson Barboza at UFC Fight Night 128. However, he only managed two wins in his next six outings and left the UFC.

After being dismissed from UFC, the former interim UFC lightweight title challenger signed a multi-fight contract with Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC.

Khabib Nurmagomedov broadens Eagle Fighting Championship

Khabib Nurmagomedov bought Gorilla Fighting Championship and rebranded it to Eagle Fighting Championship. Ever since then, the company has grown and expanded to North America. They have roped in established names to help them in their growth in the global sphere.

Eagle Fighting Championship is quite versatile from other MMA promotions. Having added the 165-pound super lightweight class, they have provided a home to fighters who find it tough to cut to lightweight and feel too small at welterweight.

Eagle Fighting Championship will organize its next American event (EFC 48: Dos Santos vs. De Castro) on May 20, 2022, in Miami, Florida, USA.

While Lee may not participate, he is certainly on track to become the inaugural 165 lbs champion and prove that not giving up was the way to go. His presence as champion will certainly broaden EFC’s reach.
