The flying knee is not a new MMA move; However, Masvidal running through the cage as soon as the bell hit was definitely a surprise for many, including his opponent Ben Askren, who didn’t get a chance to analyze the situation. Hence, the technique combined with the timing was the formula for success.

Any successful finishing technique is replicated in the MMA game, and this one was no different.

However, what’s even stranger about the whole incident was a fan in the crowd predicting the move. The sound in the video was not clear, but it appears the fan said, “… Masvidal flying knee, …he’s [going to put] on a show right now, so be ready,” just before the start of the fight.

Fabricio Werdum tried something similar to Jorge Masvidal

Most UFC heavyweights rely on the punching power to get the job done in the heavy-hitting division. However, the Jiujitsu wizard Fabricio Werdum showed the effectiveness of grappling and submission in the heavyweight category.

Since the Jiujitsu ace was never afraid to work from his back, he pulled off a running flying kick in the opening minute of his bout against a 6’6” fighter, Travis Browne, at UFC 203.

These kinds of moments are very rare in MMA and whenever it is executed successfully, it is a treat for the fans to watch.
