‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Kamaru Usman retained his welterweight throne at UFC 261 as he knocked out Jorge Masvidal emphatically. Also, Rose Namajunas became the new UFC strawweight champion after her sensational head kick knockout win over Weili Zhang in the co-main event.

Both Usman and Namajunas train under the guidance of Trevor Wittman. Needless to say, that has been working for the duo. Usman seems like a rejuvenated version of himself with his improved striking; ‘Thug Rose’ looked better than ever against Weili.

The teammates met each 0ther backstage after their fights and they celebrated together.

In the video, ‘Thug’ praised Usman for his fight-ending punch against ‘Gamebred’. Usman appreciated Namajunas’s kick as well as he smiled and said, “That kick though!”

Namajunas’s kick was a thing of beauty as it caught ‘Magnum’ by surprise and put her down. It was yet another moment of brilliance from ‘Thug’ in a career full of them.

Usman’s knockout was as brutal as one can imagine. What’s even more impressive was the fact that it was against a striker like Masvidal, who had never been knocked out ahead of UFC 261. Masvidal’s T/KO loss to Rodrigo Damm in 2008 was controversial, as the fight shouldn’t have been stopped by any means.

Usman is now on a 14-fight winning streak in the UFC’s welterweight division. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has also defended his belt four times. Namajunas created her own piece of history too as she became the first woman to regain the belt she once held.
