After Michael ‘Iron’ Chandler recently bagged one of the biggest wins of his career at UFC 274, he called out the top lightweight contenders (Conor McGregor, Charles Oliveira, and Justin Gaethje). However, Chandler missed the number two ranked fighter, Dustin Poirier.

During a recent interview with Teddy Atlas, ‘The Diamond’ was asked to give his thoughts on the same. The Louisiana native obliged and provided his reasoning about why Chandler didn’t call him out.

He said, “The next day I tweeted out that exact thing. I said he’s called out everybody, but I didn’t hear my name. I’m a dangerous fight for him. And I think I am a clean puncher, accurate.”

“I think he called out Conor (McGregor). Conor is a dangerous fight for him, too, you know. I’m not saying Chandler’s chinny or anything. But he gets hurt in a lot of his fights. And guys like Conor, they can punch.”

“If you are getting hurt by Tony Ferguson and dropped by (Charles) Oliveira, guys like me, guys like Conor, if we touch your chin. It’s gonna be bad, you know.”

While Poirier is coming off a loss in his last fight, Chandler has just got back into the win column after defeating Tony Ferguson. Now both the contenders are waiting for their next fight.

The ongoing war of words between the two has opened a window for the fans to speculate about a blockbuster lightweight bout. Moreover, as both Chandler and Poirier are looking to map their way back to the lightweight gold, a fight between them could be a stepping stone for both.
