Former UFC featherweight contender Renato Moicano’s move up the division has given him a lot of success in the lightweight division. At UFC 271, Moicano put on an impressive performance. However, recent reports suggest that the Brazilian fighter almost missed the card because of a nasty cut on the forehead.

The Brazilian suffered an injury during the sparring session. The ATT fighter got 12 stitches to the head because of an accidental headbutt two weeks before the fight.

He wrote on his Instagram, “Two weeks before the fight I suffered a cut in training that almost took me out of the fight, made it impossible for me to train properly for a few days, but I’m Brazilian and giving up is not an option!!! And I couldn’t let the opportunity pass!!! Let’s go to the next one!!! Osssss.” [Translated via Google Translate]

Eventually, Moicano could compete and win the fight by an impressive submission.

UFC shifted this fight from prelims to the main card

Originally, the UFC had scheduled the fight to feature on the prelims. However, after Alexander Hernandez’s unhappiness with the placement, the UFC moved the fight to the main card. However, instead of Hernandez, the former featherweight capitalized on the opportunity and put on the clinical performance.

Some fans criticized Hernandez’s decision to downplay the prelims. Also, veteran UFC featherweight Cub Swanson reminded ‘The Great’ about the time when he was fighting in the prelims. Swanson suggested that instead of downplaying the prelims, he promoted the fight such that the fans got excited to see him fight on the UFC Fight Pass.
