Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier recently made a rare appearance in Dublin, Ireland. He is currently there supporting and training with fellow American Top Team member Sabah Homasi who is all set to make his comeback at Bellator Dublin. Creating quite the buzz, his presence has also sparked significant speculation about a presumptive meeting with Irish sensation Conor McGregor.

Poirier had been on a hiatus following his knockout loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291 in July of 2023. Following his determination to stage a comeback before the year’s end, fans are excited about his presence in McGregor’s city. The Mystic Mac hails from Crumlin, a neighborhood nestled in the heart of Dublin. Considering their distinctive personalities, although it appears highly unlikely that they could meet, fans seem hopeful flooding Poirier’s Instagram with comments. This is especially pertinent since their dynamic is marked by a series of ups and downs, leaving McGregor with a brutal injury.

Fans react as Dustin Poirier visits Conor McGregor’s hometown, Dublin

The 34-year-old visitor marked his stop in Dublin by sharing a captivating photo on his Instagram captioned “Roadwork in Dublin with the boys!” He is seen wandering the charming streets near Dublin’s picturesque docklands. As soon as he unveiled the picture, eager fans swarmed his post, curious as to whether he might pay a visit to McGregor’s Black Forge Inn, or would the former champion ‘squash the beef’ and invite him for “steak and pint.”

Although neither The Diamond nor The Notorious has yet responded to these fan requests, nor has Poirier been spotted at Black Forge Inn, one can only hope that it happens soon. Some of the comments on Poirier’s post read as follows:

  • Go visit the black forge inn
  • why is bro in dublin
  • Imagine dustin runs into conor
  • Squash the beef, go for a pint at the black forge, love from 🇮🇪

It all began in 2014 when Porier and McGregor exchanged blows at the UFC 178, and McGregor finished with a TKO. ‘The Notorious’ displayed a superior performance and emerged as a champion in the first round itself. This clearly set off the rivalry, given that Poirier changed his division and started competing in the lightweight matches, seemingly to polish his skills.

In their second bout, Poirier emerged with more experience and secured victory against Mcgregor by TKO in their second round. However, things took a dramatic turn in 2021 before their third bout at UFC 264. McGregor with a drastic change in attitude towards his opponent stated to Ariel Helwani that “Poirier would be leaving the cage on a stretcher.”

Unfortunately, their relationship had hit a rough patch on the sidelines over a public dispute involving a $500,000 donation. McGregor later lost the third fight, with gruesome injuries and a ‘TKO via doctor’s stoppage.’ Fans, aware of Porier being ahead of the game, demanded a fourth bout between the two.

  • Dustin vs Conor 4
  • Wait til Connor sees this. He’s really gonna shat himself!
  • Conor, do the right thing and invite Dustin for a steak and pint.
  • Squash the beef. Dustin X Garry X McGregor. What a team

Fans have been eager to see what is next in store for these ‘not-so-friendly’ fighters right after the ‘trilogy’ tiebreaker match between Mcgregor and Poirier match was canceled. The hype behind Poirier’s mere presence in Mcgregor’s hometown is a indeed clear testament to that. Currently, they are far from even being cordial, and with such strong personalities, it’s uncertain whether they’ll ever build a friendly relationship again.
