The Irishman garnered global attention for his spectacular victory. It was one of the most anticipated bouts in the history of the sport. However, the fight was scheduled to take place at UFC 189 on 11th July 2015. But Aldo suffered a rib injury and had to pull out of the fight.
Hence, the fight took place on 12th December 2015. Given it was McGregor’s bout, a lot of trash talk was involved in the lead-up to the fight. ‘The Notorious’ left no chance to play the mental game on the Brazilian and also mocked him several times for pulling out of the previous fight.
During one of the press conferences before the fight, UFC president Dana White announced Aldo has to leave early because he has to attend a wedding as a best man.
Pointing to this, McGregor taunted Aldo and said, “Jose has to catch a plane. How the f**k am I supposed to get excited about this thing and he’s gone? He doesn’t wanna be here. He’s not gonna be there on December 12th.”
“Like he was not there on July 11th. So I tell everyone up here 145 to 170 prepare for this fight. Because I don’t think he’s showing up,” he added.
