His Tweet read “Jose Aldo, the destroyer of men, giggling like a child trying on his first suit over a decade ago“. The video showcased Aldo in a mart, shopping for suits and hats, and snickering as innocent as a little one.

RJ Clifford further said in his tweet, “A poor kid from the favela laughing endearingly at the absurdity that is suit shopping.” He ended the tweet by labeling Aldo as a “Legend”.

Where does Jose Aldo’s innocence come from?

As you may know, Jose Aldo grew up in a small village in Manaus, Brazil, in poverty. Before stepping into this world of MMA, the luxuries of the world were unknown to him.

Jose Aldo, nicknamed “Junior” fought his first ever MMA fight in 2004. Aldo relocated from Manaus to Rio de Janeiro just at 17, taking just his clothing with him and vowing to practice mixed martial arts.

Aldo made it big in the sport after the WEC merged with the UFC. He went on to become a two-time UFC featherweight champion. Jose Aldo also has also defended his Featherweight title a record 7 times. Many consider him to be the greatest champion ever.

What the fans had to say on RJ Clifford’s tweet about Jose Aldo?

RJ Clifford’s tweet received a lot of retweets and replies from his fans. Some went on to correct Clifford’s misinformation in the tweet by replying, “He’s not from the Favela Man, not everybody in Brazil are from there”.

Some fans of Aldo even blamed the UFC in their tweet about how they misused Jose Aldo’s silence to build up the UFC 194 Main Event in favor of Conor McGregor.

A fan tweeted, “Will never forgive The UFC for what they did to him building up to Conor’s fight.”

Whether Jose Aldo Jr. was the greatest champion or not, is a fact to be debated. But his childlike charm and innocence, which this video shows, is a really wholesome thing to watch. What do you think? Was ‘Junior’ the greatest champion ever in the UFC ?

My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
