‘The Diamond’ Dustin Poirier shocked the world at UFC 257 as he managed to get the biggest victory of his illustrious professional career against former two-division UFC champion ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor. Poirier fought a near-perfect fight, executing his game plan in a wonderful display to level their head-to-head at 1-1.

He managed to take the Irishman down in the first round and landed some significant calf kicks, which proved to be pivotal as McGregor was numb on his legs.

Many discounted Poirier’s chances in this fight as McGregor stopped him in 2014. There were doubts about Poirier’s mentality, as the consensus belief was that loss would have impacted his mindset. But, his wife certainly didn’t doubt him.

What’s next for Dustin Poirier?

Poirier has won the interim championship at UFC 236. But, the undisputed gold eluded him as he came up short against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242. With the Russian seemingly retired, ‘The Diamond’ has certainly put himself in pole position to challenge for the belt next. Also, a trilogy fight against Conor McGregor looks inevitable.
