As of March 1st, 2022, Makhachev stands third in UFC’s lightweight rankings. The fighter has had notable wins over some top fighters like Dan Hooker, Thiago Moisés, and Drew Dober.

Makhachev has always been the kind of fighter to talk less outside the octagon and show his dominance in his fights. However, when he does talk to the press, Makhachev likes to joke around. In his past octagon interviews, the fighter has called out fighters like Brock Lesnar and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.

He said,” Hey Dana, I want a money fight. Give me Mayweather Wooo!” His call out left Joe Rogan astounded, and Rogan asked, “Did you say, Mayweather!?”

After another win, Makhachev joked, “Hey DC, tell this guy I deserve for top 15. Or I want to fight with Brock Lesnar. “

Even though he jokes outside the octagon, his fighting skills are nothing to be laughed at. Makhachev is a terrific grappler and is also extremely quick and clinical with his striking. He is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the lightweight division right now.

What’s next for Islam Makhachev?

The Russian fighter currently has a remarkable 10 fight winning streak. The fighter hasn’t lost a bout since 2015. After an impressive win over Bobby Green at UFC Vegas 49, Islam Makhachev is next in line for a shot at the lightweight title. The fighter is expected to take on the winner of Justin Gaethje vs. Charles Oliveira.
