Former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov had a hilarious moment with friends Islam Makhachev and Daniel Cormier.

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Max Holloway is one of the fantasy fights which never saw the light of the UFC octagon. Even though the promotion scheduled this fight for UFC 223 in April 2018, it never happened because of Holloway’s weight cut issue.

However, recently fight fans witnessed this much-anticipated bout but not inside the UFC cage. Instead, the men clashed against each other inside a first-ever Metaverse fight in the world on 12th February.

Meanwhile, Nurmagomedov’s longtime teammate and friend Islam Makhachev and UFC legend Daniel Cormier were also present at the event as commentators. At a point during the interview with Cormier and Makhachev, the undefeated fighter joked about Makhachev not being a champion.

Nurmagomedov said, “You know what interesting DC? Tonight he gonna cook a lot of food and Islam gonna eat only green salad. I am gonna enjoy with chicken, beef with everything!”

“You know why DC? Cuz we champion. But this guy he need to prove a lot straight. He has to stay focused. Tonight I am gonna enjoy,” Nurmagomedov concluded. 

While Khabib Nurmagomedov has completely retired from the sport with an undefeated record of 29-0, his long-time friend Islam Makhachev is following his footsteps in the lightweight division of UFC.

Makhachev, since his debut in the promotion, has faced only one setback. Also, he currently stands number four in the lightweight division of UFC. Interestingly, the Dagestan native is training under the former champion Nurmagomedov.

Notably, this has improved his performance, as seen recently in his last bout at UFC 267. Makhachev defeated Dan Hooker in the first round via submission. ‘The Eagle’ cornered his friend for this fight in Abu Dhabi.

This was Makhachev’s ninth win in a row. Considering his run in the promotion, the Dagestan native asked for a title shot. However, number one lightweight contender Justin Gaethje is already in the title picture.

Hence, Makhachev will now take on the number three ranked fighter Beneil Dariush inside the UFC cage. This intriguing lightweight fight will headline an event on 26th February 2022.
