The Nigerian star was able to secure his grip on the fight in the second, third and fourth rounds, landing multiple takedowns, and seemingly winning the fight on the judges’ card for those rounds.
Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards then shocked the MMA world by landing a perfect head kick to knock out the Welterweight champion. ‘Rocky’ looked to be out of the fight, staring down the barrel of his second loss to Usman, just before knocking out The Nigerian star. Leon Edwards secured his victory via KO, to become the new UFC welterweight champion.
Edwards later spoke to Joe Rogan, as he described his knockout as, “Headshot Dead. That’s it.”
Edwards told Rogan, “I was born in Jamaica with nothing, now look at me.”
When asked whether the 30-year-old felt like he might lose the fight at any point, he replied,” I’m from the trenches, I’m built like this.”
The new UFC Welterweight champion said that he always felt doubted and was finally able to prove his critics wrong.
“You all doubted me and said I couldn’t do it. Look at me now!”
Rocky said that he wanted to be successful and help him change his life, and his mother’s.
“I told you I’d do it, Mum. I told you I’d change our f**king life, and I did it.”
Edwards showed his emotions in the Octagon, as he cried and shouted, while he raised the belt above his head.
