A recent video grab saw ‘Sugar’ Sean doing light sparring with a training partner whilst indulging in his patented form of recreation. Chiefly, fans have come to expect nothing less from the outspoken prospect who is a massive star in the company.

O’Malley’s cerebral fighting style as seen inside the cage draws parallels to his unconventional training style. The 25-year-old has racked up some extremely impressive wins on the feet and his KO over Eddie Wineland is in contention for ‘KO of the Year’. What’s more, his quirky presence on social media has driven numerous fans to climb aboard the hype train.

Sean O’Malley: A look back

The 12-1 fighter burst onto the scene through Dana White’s Contender Series’ and his rise has been meteoric. Sean O’Malley received a massive push from the promotion after they saw the manner in which fight fans had taken to him. Moreover, his personality was just an add-on compared to the formidable skill set he possesses at bantamweight.

Sugar’ went undefeated through five UFC fights, earning stellar KOs in three of his octagon appearance. However, the ‘hype train’ would be derailed to some degree after Sean choked in his co-main event appearance at UFC 252. He faced off against veteran scrapper Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera and came up short after suffering major damage to his legs. ‘Chito’ finished O’Malley on the ground via vicious elbows and punches.

Sean O’Malley received some backlash as he had talked up his ability in high regard leading up to the fight. Despite the outcome going against him, the general consensus is that ‘Sugar’ can earn a title shot. Furthermore, he comes in as a complete package and would be a champion the UFC could easily get behind.

It will be imperative that O’Malley makes his way back to the win column while securing some highlight-reel finishes. All he needs are a few statement KOs and he will find himself right back in the mix at 135-pounds.
