Khabib Nurmagomedov and Nate Diaz are on the opposite end of the pole with their MMA record. Though the two have been a long staple in the lightweight division, they never squared off against each other. ‘The Eagle’ has a reason for them never competing against each other.
In 2015, ‘The Eagle’ spoke to MMA Junkie and revealed his thought on a fight with Nate Diaz.

He said, “I’m not like, like this bullsh*t guy, Nate Diaz. Only talk.”
“He only talks, you know, he only talks in the Twitter. He lose 100 times, he lose his last 100 fights. And, if I fight versus Diaz. I no, I no give respect for my fans, you know. Everybody know this is easy fight for me.”

Nurmagomedov made fun of Diaz’s UFC record and dismissed him as an opponent. Nate Diaz had a 17-10 record, and Nurmagomedov was undefeated at 22-0.
Khabib Nurmagomedov and Nate Diaz both fought Rafael dos Anjos
Further, Khabib was coming off a win over Rafael dos Anjos. In contrast, Diaz was coming off a defeat to RDA. ‘The Eagle’ had a piece of rough luck and faced a lot of injuries. During his absence, RDA won the lightweight championship. Even with a victory over then-champion Rafael dos Anjos, Nurmagomedov had a tough time moving up in the division.

Eventually, ‘The Eagle‘ fought for the UFC title and defended it three times before retiring in 2020. In contrast, Diaz went 3-3 in his next six fights.
Though the fans love the Stockton native, his UFC record is nowhere near perfect. Looking at their UFC records, ‘The Eagle’ was always a level above Diaz.
