WATCH: When Khabib Nurmagomedov Swam Against the River to Improve His Cardio

Khabib Nurmagomedov is known for going beyond his limits when it comes to physical and strength training. The 28-0 record holder is so far one of the greatest MMA fighters the UFC has witnessed. 

The undefeated “Eagle” has a terrific record in his UFC career and has marked victories over opponents like Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier to name a few. He has definitely worked and stretched a lot to reach where he is now in his career. Recently, one of his cardio routines went viral, and it amazed all his fans.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and his swimming training

The lightweight champion hit the headlines when a video of him swimming in an icy river went viral on Oct 15, 2019. This is not the first time the Russian challenged nature for his pieces of training. Khabib is also famous for wrestling with bears and has been doing it since the tender age of nine.

This time, it was another force of nature that “The Eagle” was dealing with. Now, it was the glacier melted river in Dagestan, Russia.

In the video, Khabib can be seen swimming against the current in icy frozen river water in Russia. The Russian was aiming to improve his cardio from this challenging exercise.

The video was posted days before the much-awaited and expected match between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov. The fight between them had earlier been canceled three times. The video came out as a warning for Ferguson.

Khabib and his intense training routine

This is not the first time that Khabib has been training by swimming in rivers. His father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, has made sure that Khabib always went to extreme lengths with his training, running up mountainsides and swimming up rivers.

Though swimming in such rivers might be very dangerous, the Russian was properly supervised.

Khabib’s intense training has always been a factor that has given him an edge in the UFC world. The lightweight champion had to train a lot to get himself to where he is.

No wonder Khabib is still recovering from the adversity of his father’s death. However, his high-intensity workout and training routine are all setting up a path for him to mark his name as the best of the best in the history of UFC.
