Conor McGregor is one of the biggest names in combat sports today. During his initial days, the Irishman looked nothing short of a warrior inside the UFC cage;  fighting was in the blood of the McGregors. In an old interview with Tony Robbins in 2020, ‘The Notorious’ revealed that he came from a warrior class family. And his ancestors had fought wars to defend their homeland.

McGregor said, You know my family is a great family. I have a loving family: my mother, my father, my two sisters. But my lineage, the McGregor lineage, we are bleed on the battlefield.”

“You can trace my lineage back to the highlands where we fought invaders off of our land with our family sword.” He informed his fans.

“I have my family sword. It’s a claymore, it’s wrapped in sheepskin,” McGregor added.

“And I have it hanging on the banisters of my stairs. Just to remind me of where I come from and who I am. We are warriors; we are fighters.” McGregor concluded.

After his debut in the promotion, the Irish warrior looked invincible. He has achieved great heights in the sport. However, every warrior faces hard times in their life, so did McGregor.

Conor McGregor: A true warrior or not?

Not only did ‘The Notorious’ leapfrog the division after entering UFC, but also defeated some of the biggest names in the process. He received worldwide recognition for his phenomenal fighting style and charismatic persona.

The Irishman made history in the sport by becoming two-weight champions of the world. Also, he holds the record for fastest victory in a title fight. However, like every other athlete, McGregor also saw a downfall in his career.

After his boxing match in 2017, ‘The Notorious’ returned to his home UFC. Unfortunately, he only won once in his previous four UFC bouts. Also, McGregor faced a career-ending injury in his last outing. However, the Irishman was back to his feet within months, even though it is not easy for an athlete to recover from such a gruesome injury.

But McGregor, with the warrior’s blood, has fully recovered and is back to training. He has also hinted at a return this year. Hence, looking at his journey, it is not hard to say that Conor McGregor is one true warrior in the sport of MMA.
