Conor McGregor, the former UFC lightweight champion, suffered a career-threatening injury in his last fight in 2021. However, the Irishman has fully recovered and hinted at a UFC return this year.

However, instead of the lightweight division, McGregor wants to challenge the number one pound-for-pound fighter Kamaru Usman for his welterweight title on his UFC return. But a title fight between Usman and the number two welterweight contender, Leon Edwards, is already in the making.

“We will mail you a cheque to step aside. We have the right to push you aside. We don’t want any hard feelings. And we acknowledge that you deserve this,” he added.

A fan suggested McGregor should fight number five welterweight fighter Gilbert Burns first before getting a title shot. He wrote, I haven’t heard anyone mention this, but what about throwing Burns with Conor first? I think it’s a perfect way to reward Burns and see where Conor really is in regards to this division. If Conor can get through Burns, then give him a title shot.”

Hey Chael. Why don’t you mention Khamzat vs Conor. Conor has never mentioned Khamzat name. Isn’t he a 170 now?!” Another fan wrote in the comments.

Another fan wrote, McGregor Chimaev – make it happen.”
